Resveratrol Cancer: Resveratrol has been shown to prevent cancer formation and prolong lifespan.

Resveratrol has been shown to prevent cancer formation and prolong lifespan but the mechanism is not fully understood. Researchers studied liver cancer cells in the laboratory to evaluate resveratrol induced changes in cell growth, cell cycle progression and programmed cell death (apoptosis).

Resveratrol at lower concentrations induced a strong S-phase cell cycle division delay and mild DNA synthesis without causing apoptosis or necrotic cell death.

Resveratrol at high concentrations induced apoptosis (normal cancer cell death).

Researchers hypothesize the S-phase cell cycle delay may represent a useful mechanism for lifespan prolongation and cancer prevention. When cell cycles are slowed down in the S-phase it would increase the total lifespan of an organism if the total numbers of cell divisions are assumed to remain basically constant. When cells proceed through cell cycles at a reduced pace during DNA replication, it may allow cells more time to repair the damaged DNA, and reduce the chances for tumor initiation.

Natural Cancer Treatment Pearls
The DNA in our cells have a telomere. Each time a cell divides the telomere is shortened. Eventually the telomere is used up and the cells no longer divide or grow in a normal fashion and the cells die. This is called apoptosis or normal programmed cell death. If the cells continue growing an an abnormal fashion they may turn into cancer.

Some nutrients, including antioxidants from fruits and vegetables, lifestyle and yet be understood situations allow an enzyme, telomerase, to add to the telomere and lengthen the number of times a cell can divide and reproduce itself properly. This may allow cells and an organism or animal to live longer.

Resveratrol appears to prolong life at low doses and treat cancer at high doses. I believe Purified Trans- Resveratrol and methylated psterostilbene products offer the best sources of resveratrol. I use Xymogen's Resveratin Plus in my clinical nutrition practice.

If you are a female you should not drink wine. Any type or amount of alcohol including red wine may increase your risk of cancer including breast cancer.
